Sample letter to your Senators

The Taxpayer First Act (HR-1957) contains several provisions that would benefit many Americans.

However, enshrining the Free File Program into law would prevent the IRS from developing the program that most taxpayers really need - one that would automatically calculate taxes for those with the simplest situations, while providing a free filing system for anyone wishing to do their own taxes.

As your constituent, I am requesting that you consider supporting the Taxpayer First Act only if the provision to protect the Free File Program is removed from it.

I also am urging you to support the Tax Filing Simplification Act (S-1194).

Sample letter to your Representative

The Taxpayer First Act (HR-1957) contains several provisions that would benefit many Americans.

However, enshrining the Free File Program into law would prevent the IRS from developing the program that most taxpayers really need - one that would automatically calculate taxes for those with the simplest situations, while providing a free filing system for anyone wishing to do their own taxes.

I realize the bill already passed the House by a voice vote. As your constituent, I am requesting that, should the Senate pass a version of the bill that differs, you only support it if the provision to protect the Free File Program is removed from it.

I also am requesting that you demand a roll-call vote, so that Americans can see how their representative acted on the bill.
